Quartetto Gelato is a genre-bending classical quartet known for its virtuosic showpieces, romantic ballads, gypsy tunes, and multi-instrumental artistry. Since winning NPR Performance Today's "Debut Artist of the Year," the group has toured internationally to sold-out audiences in New York, Washington, L.A., London, Tokyo, and Hong Kong, blending classical masterworks with tangos, klezmer, and vocals in theatrical, humour-filled performances. Their music has been featured on CBC, NPR, and PBS, in the Hollywood film Only You, and even aboard NASA's space shuttle Columbia. Across ten albums since 1994, including Neapolitan Café, Travels the Orient Express, and Tasty Tunes (2021), Quartetto Gelato has built a reputation for eclectic, internationally inspired programs delivered with warmth, wit, and exceptional musicianship.
Sawtooth is a chamber music duo dedicated to exploring the connections between folk, classical, and contemporary repertoire. Formed by Sarah Albu and Matti Pulkki, the duo seeks out obscure song repertoire, reimagines chamber works and folk transcriptions, and collaborates closely with composers to develop new pieces that incorporate theatricality and electronics.
Both members are active soloists and collaborators across Canada and internationally, known for commissioning new works and performing across genres and disciplines including film, theatre, cabaret, and dance.
Freesound is a Toronto-based contemporary music collective dedicated to daring, innovative programming in experimental and contemporary chamber music. Built around a core of nine members, the ensemble often incorporates electronics, video, and other technology into its performances, and has become a leading voice in Canadian contemporary music. Each season, Freesound focuses on a small number of commissions, working closely with composers to develop personal new works, alongside repeat performances and revivals of landmark 20th- and 21st-century repertoire. Since its founding in 2018, Freesound has performed at festivals including Suoni Il Poppolo (Montreal) and Women from Space (Toronto), and has been ensemble-in-residence at Arraymusic in Toronto since 2023.
